Municipal plant operators and managers are continuously seeking better ways to meet water quality targets while improving treatment efficiency and reducing treatment costs, The amount of coagulant dosed at water treatment plants has a large impact on the running costs and efficiency of the water treatment process. Predicting changes in coagulant demand with rapid water quality changes can be challenging. The use of coagulation prediction software to manage treatment plant operations can have significant benefits on this process.
WTC-CoagTM (Water Treatment Control for Coagulation) is a coagulation prediction tool for Alum dosing. It utilises relatively simple rapidly determined water quality input data to generate dose predictions. The model uses the four raw water quality inputs of UV254, colour, turbidity and alkalinity to generate predictions. This web based software can be used to perform several predictive functions to assist treatment plant operators to determine chemical doses required to optimise the process, particularly removal of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), colour and turbidity from raw water.
